Graduate Application Process
The deadline for fall admission is February 15th. Please note that this deadline is firm and not subject to waivers and/or extensions. All application materials must be RECEIVED in the Graduate Office of Arts & Sciences by that date (packages merely postmarked by that date will not be accepted). The Graduate Office will not release any files to the English Department after that date; those files that complete after the deadline will be forwarded to the next year's application cycle.

A. Application Form

Each applicant must complete in full the College of Arts and Sciences Application for Graduate Study and the University Information application. The Office of Graduate Studies--College of Arts and Sciences cannot acknowledge the receipt of any materials until these forms have been received.

B. Application Fee

Currently, the application fee for applicants to graduate study in the College of Arts and Sciences is $50. The non-refundable fee, payable by check or money order only, does not apply toward registration fees. The check or money order should be made payable to Georgia State University and contain the applicant's Social Security number.

C. Transcript

Applicants must submit to the Office of Graduate Studies two official transcripts from the registrar of each college or university attended. Applicants who previously have attended Georgia State must submit one transcript from each institution attended before Georgia State and two transcripts from each after Georgia State. Transcripts from Georgia State are not required. Transcripts received become the property of Georgia State University and can neither be given to the applicant nor transferred to another institution. The Office of Graduate Studies must receive transcripts in an unopened envelope bearing the official registrar's seal.

D. The Graduate Record Examination

Each applicant must make individual arrangements with the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, N.J., to take either the written or the computerized version of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Local applicants may contact the Georgia office of the Educational Testing Service at 1-800-GRE-CALL, and applicants outside the state of Georgia should contact the Educational Testing Service in Princeton at 609/771-7670. Results are usually reported about six weeks after the test date for the written test and three weeks for the computerized test.

E. Other Materials

In addition to the Application for Graduate Study form (Part 1), the University Information form (Part 2), the $50 application fee, and official transcripts each applicant must submit the materials indicated by February 15th. You may check the College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Studies website for further information.
