The Department of English is offering for Spring Break (March 14-20) “In the Footsteps of Boswell and Johnson: Literary Scotland.” The course is structured to meet pre-1800 and post-1800 requirements.  It works as well for CW and Rhet/Comp students.

Price is c. $1200 for all accommodation, tours, and 3 breakfasts.  All other food, airfare, and airport transportation are not included in this: you may leave earlier or stay later for further travel or archival research (on which I can advise).  Study Abroad and the Dean’s Office have previously offered every student between $1300 and $2000 in scholarships to fund this.

We will spend 2 full days in Edinburgh and 4 days on a guided tour into the Highlands and Western Islands, including Skye.  Our focus will be national identity, memoir, story-telling, and history and literature as Boswell, Johnson, and other Scottish writers represent them.  Final paper is due at the end of spring full semester and can reflect your interest and experience as inspired by this course.

Please let me know right away if you are interested.  I will need to meet with each participant and have limited spots left.
