English M.F.A. in Creative Writing, Fiction & Poetry
Our Creative Writing Program offers diverse and challenging educational experiences in the literary arts. Our award-winning faculty of poets, essayists and fiction writers mentor undergraduate and graduate students who come to Georgia State to study the craft and art of writing and to prepare for careers in writing, publishing and academia. Every member of the Creative Writing Program faculty has published with top commercial, independent, or university presses three or more books that have received significant critical attention.
English M.A. in Rhetoric & Composition
Rhetoric & Composition students can combine areas of interest across historical periods, current composition studies, rhetorical theory, visual and digital rhetoric, technical communication, advanced academic writing, language studies, writing center studies, writing program administration and professional writing.They learn to use new digital publications and information technologies and acquire valuable software skills that make them attractive to prospective employers. No other university in Georgia offers such as comprehensive graduate program in rhetoric and composition.
English M.A. in Literary Studies
Our Literary Studies students have the opportunity to work with some of the profession’s most talented and productive teachers, scholars and theorists. With a faculty trained at top institutions and extensively publishing in their fields, Georgia State’s Literary Studies Program fosters an environment of critical engagement with some of the most pressing questions in contemporary literary and cultural studies.
English, Ph.D., Creative Writing Concentration
Our program in Creative Writing is one of the top 15 in the U.S., as ranked by Poets & Writers. The program offers doctoral students the opportunity to work closely with our award-winning faculty while living and writing in Atlanta, an international city with a vibrant literary culture.
Students may qualify for teaching assistantships, editorial assistantships and fellowships.
English, Ph.D., Literary Studies Concentration
The program in Literary Studies fosters an environment of critical engagement with the most pressing questions in contemporary literary and cultural studies.
Our students work with some of the profession’s most talented and productive teachers, scholars and theorists in American, British and world literatures, cultural studies and folklore, and learn to develop a research agenda in their area of specialization.
English, Ph.D., Rhetoric & Composition Concentration
We offer the largest Rhetoric & Composition program in the Southeast, with eight specialized faculty members in rhetoric, composition, digital media and communication, writing center theories and pedagogies and language studies.
Within our distinctive curriculum, students can combine areas of interest across historical periods, current composition studies, rhetorical theory, visual and digital rhetoric, new and emerging media, advanced academic writing, language studies, writing center studies, writing program administration and professional writing.
