- Biography
Nick Sturm’s research and teaching explore the interdisciplinary poetics of innovative American literature with a particular focus on the New York School of poets and adjacent aesthetic movements. Like his teaching with undergraduate students, this scholarship is multimodal—including a digital publishing project, essays, book chapters, data visualizations, interviews, and podcasts—and relies on primary source archival research as well as direct engagement with the artists he studies.
Dr. Sturm’s research has been supported by Emory University’s Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, where he was the Postdoctoral Fellow in Poetics from 2020-21, as well as by grants from Emory’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library and the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut. Currently he is completing editorial projects related to the work of poets Alice Notley and Ted Berrigan and editing a digital cluster for the scholarly journal Post45 on post-1960 little magazines. His undergraduate teaching has earned awards from Florida State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. More information about his teaching, pedagogical interests, and scholarship are available at his website www.nicksturm.com, including his research-based blog Crystal Set.
